At Sierra Llorona we are always ready and available to
answer the questions you may have related to your stay and
tours. The following Questions are the most frequent ones we
received and by no means the only ones. To help you personally

• Where is Sierra "Leona" located? Sierra
Llorona means, "the crying mountain" or
"weeping mountain". It is located in the Caribbean side of
central Panama (Canal watershed) on the mountain range, 15 kms
from Colon City .
• Is it Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge or SLPL? Navigating
trough our web page you may find the letters SLPL which refers
to S ierra L

odge ( SLPL ). Also on the last 2 km
road to the lodge, you will see the SLPL sings announcing
distance from the lodge.
• How many rooms
available? We have 8 rooms distributed as follows: 1
Suite, 3 singles and 4 double rooms with bathroom, hot water,
ceiling fans and a balcony with hammock facing the rain
forest.
• How far is the Lodge from Panama City ? One hour to
reach the road entrance to Sierra Llorona and from there,
another 10 to 15 minutes.
• Do You accept Credit Cards? VISA, Master Card and
Diners
• Do You have a swimming pool? We have an area in the
middle of the jungle where you can swim and refresh. Called La
Poza, 25 minutes walking distance from main
building, bring swimsuits.
• Are You capable of attending groups? Groups up to 16
on double occupancy and up to 20 on triple occupancy. For
other activities like seminars, therapies etc we can manage 25
or more.
• Do You do transfer arrangements from Tocumen
International Airport ? Yes we do transfers from and to
any place in the Rep. of Panama. We also can provide You with
CAR and DRIVER during Your stay and for as long required. Make
sure previous arrangements are made.
• Can You pick us up at the Train Station in Colon ? We
are capable of transfer to and from any Terminal Station in
Colon and Panama City of (bus, train, ships); from local
flights airport Marcos A. Gelabert (Albrook) and Tocumen
International Airport . Also previous arrangements, we can
offer a bilingual Driver for your rented car needs: local
tours and/or country trips.
• What activities do you offer at the Lodge? Any other
outside Tours ? Basically we are a mountain-lodge
surrounded by tropical rain forest with trails and paths to
walk for birding and nature observation and enjoyment. You
will encounter an easy going environment full of nature life
and perfect installations for relaxing and rewinding. For
tours we offer with previous reservations: cultural, ethnics,
historical, bird watching and much more. It depends on
interest.
• Will I have a problem finding early morning
transportation to Achiote Road or other birding destinations
nearby? Our Birding Tours depart early morning having
breakfast at the lodge right before 5:00am so participants
will be at the first birding spot before sunrise. We also
attend groups. Some destinations nearby we will be able to
take you to, are: Achiote Road , Pipeline, Plantation Road,
North and South Old Gamboa Road , Ammo Dump, Black Tank Road ,
Skunk Hollow Road , San Lorenzo, Fort Sherman , Old Gatun Town
and many more.
• Are rooms with air condition? All of our rooms are
facing northeast-southwest receiving crosswind ventilation
depending on the season and also they do have ceiling fans
just in case. Air conditioners are not necessary.
• Do You do half day Birding trips and what are the cost?
We do Half Day Birding Trips, previous arrangements are
necessary. We can arrange a very special half day trip; costs
will vary depending on destinations of your choice. We do
other half day trips.
• Is safe to go into Colon City ? Just like any
port-city in the world. There are six cruise-ship ports that
served 2004 season (Nov. to April); last year almost 200
cruise-ships arrived in Colon City totaling more than 250,000
passengers asking for Historical, Indian Villages , Panama and
Colon City day tours.
• What animals we might see during our visit? Here is a
list of mammals spotted in the Private Reserve of Sierra
Llorona Lodge: Kinkajou, Olingo, Agouti, Coati, Geoffrey's
Tamarin, Howler Monkey, White-faced Capuchin, Night Monkey,
Forest Rabbit, Porcupine, Collared Peccary, Ocelot,
Jaguarundi, Grison, Tayra, Two-toed and Three-toed sloth,
Central American Woolly Opposum, Common Opposum, Ant eater
(Tamandua), Nine banded armadillo, Red-tailed squirrel and
several species of bats and forest mice.
• Are there snakes? Snakes are a fact of life in a
healthy forest, although few are poisonous and very hard to
see, nevertheless, we recommend when walking the jungle
reserve wear high walking boots or shoes and long pants. Check

• Spiders, ants, insects? Beautiful spider
webs, different size of ants and well known
recognize insects like the Leaf-footed bug (made famous by
previous edition of The Lonely Planet Guide of Panama), the
Walking stick and the giant wild Forest Cucaracha are possible
specially after it rains.
• Any mosquitoes? Mosquitoes are not as frequent as we
might think. Some mosquito repellent will not do any harm.
Remember we are a Mountain Lodge located in the middle of the
Jungle, with high humidity percentage produce by the frequent
rain.
• Other tropic living species? Howler monkeys (Allouata
palliata) and white throated capuchins (Cebus capucinus). It
is possible that 3 other primates (night monkeys, tamarins and
spider monkeys) could also be present at Sierra Llorona

• Scientific Investigation? We like to promote
Scientific Investigation offering all the available facilities
to persons related to the scientific world for study purposes.
In the past few months a study about the Atelopus
Limosus an endemic frog to Sierra Llorona area
was conducted by Joel a student of Panama University . Also
studies of many other species such as termites, ants, bats...
