Muchas gracias y saludos.

- This is such a beautiful place! An one of the nicest
rooms we have had anywhere. Gonzalo is a wonderful host and
made our stay comfortable too. At the end of 3 wks of being on
the move around Panama this has been a wonderful, peaceful
respite. Gonzalo took good care of us and responded to our
specific food needs + requests. Even though we didn't
specifically came for watching birds we so appreciate the
beauty + diversity that is here + we feel more a part of it
around all the birds and other creatures. Enjoyed the walk
with Miguel, a very sensitive and special person wth such an
apparent love for what he does + the natural world. Chirstina

- Obviously built and design with a birders perspective.
Loved the relax atmosphere, altitude and bird species. superb
hospitality and reasonable prices makes this place a gem.
Thanks a lot! Jane

- Although we couldn't have known, it turns out that this
last part of our visit to Panama was the best by far! Sierra
Llorona is just wonderful from dawn to dusk and into the night
(owls, potoos, pheasant cuckoo). We have been genuinely happy
in this wonderful place, so beautiful and the friendliest
place we have been. It feels like home and we which we didn't
have to leave tomorrow. Pero nos corazons esta aqui! With our
wonderful friend Gonzalo... Ellen

- A lovely location! Toucans, parrots, and a lot of
hummingbirds. A good base of operations for Gatun Locks area.
Migel is among the very best spotters we have encountered. And
good food! Ivan
and Eve Oelrich, Arlington, Virginia. 8 March 2005
- In about 5 hours along Achiote Road during midday
(0930-1430)--not the best time for birding due to our Cruise
Ship limitations, Michael did a fine job for us. He has a very
good ear and knows the local birds well. Best birds seen
included Blue Cotinga, Spot-crowned Barbet, Golden-collared
Manakin, White-headed Wren, Black-chested Jay, Sulphur-rumped
and Crimson-backed Tanagers, and Fulvous-vented Euphonia. I
also got great photos of a pair of White-tailed Trogons
attending their nest hole in an arboreal termite nest." Peter
Bono, from the cruise-ship "Zenith", Celebrity Cruise
Line, March 6, 2005
- This was a great place! Peaceful, quiet and a goodly
number of birds. The field trips were great and Michael was a
knowledgeable guide. He immediately understood our needs for
getting close to birds since we were photographing them. I
would recommend this place to anyone who wants to see birds.

- Scott and Joan Holt visited from Port Arkansas TX for 4
nights. We enjoyed the quite atmosphere. The yard birds with
Michael - he shared us some good birds on Pipeline Road. The
Golden Collared Manakin at the locks and Blue Crowned Manakin
at Sierra Llorona we were really nice. We had a really good
look a the Chess nut back Ant bird at Sierra Llorona as well.
The rooms were comfortable and cool at night. The food was
good but not special - I would like more protein for breakfast
but the fruit was great. We hope to return some day. Scott
and Joan Holt, Feb. 5, 2005
- We actually photographed the White throated Crake, Great
Tinamou and Spectacle Owl!!! I could have seen the Little
Tinamou if I had eyes as quick as Michaels. My consolation
price was a Blue-crowned Motmot photo op in the same spot off
Old Gamboa Road; I swam to the rhythm of the nifty
water-powered Ram Pump. Great vacation. The Leaf Footed Bugs
are photogenic and beautiful. Oh! I saw a family of Capibaras,
2 sloths, a tamandua -photograph them all - . Saw a
Coatimundi, Crested Guans... knockout looks at Trogons and
Manakins and Woodpeckers and Broad-billed and Rufusn Motmots
(as well as the aforementioned Blue-Crowned). The Chestnut
Mandible and Keel-Billed Toucans and Aracari and Parrots posed
right at the Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge. Several mornings
there were many Swallow-tailed Kites circling over the lodge.

place to sleep. We could have stayed for several more days to
slow down enough to see the beauty of the area and to relax.

Mucho Gracias for creating this Sanctuary! The best night
sleep was here, the sounds in the forest, the breezes the good
food and company all added to my healing. Much Aloha! Laura
- Thanks to: Gonzalo, Michael, Ida, Francis and Rosa, our
stay at Sierra Llorona has been wonderful. Not a dull moment.
always new birds, flowers, insects. The grounds are
beautifully landscaped. The rooms are very comfortable and
clean. The food is prepared and presented nicely. If monkeys
are Your favorite I saw 3 kinds, 3 toed sloth, and much, much,
more. The hospitality has been very pleasant and comfortable.
We have not needed or wanted for anything this whole week. I
would recommend this Lodge to any who love to discover new and
interesting sites of nature. Oh, I forgot to mention,
Butterflies, just as varied as the birds. Lots to keep me busy
with the camera. Thank You so much! Becky

- Hola. This has been a perfect place to start off el año
2005. !Gracias a Todos! We are sitting in the gazebo writing
postcards and catching up our bird list. It is 10:00am or so,
the temperature is perfect. A soft breeze blowing. The sun
comes in and out. Silence except for hermit "squeak",
woodnymph "thrum" and assorted chips and calls of warblers,
tanagers, wrens etc. etc. etc. A bananaquit is gathering
nesting materials in the orchids 4 feet away. Colibrí are
zooming around. There are leaf-footed-insects in the flowers
(hibiscus like) besides the food and comfort and birds, I want
to thank you for your patience y ayuda con mi español. Es
bueno "tener" oportunidad a hablar con alquien como Gonzalo
quien habla los dos idiomas ingles y español con pluidencia.
Eileen. Yes, we have been very comfortable and welcome here.
Thank you for the big day yesterday and Julian at Achiote Road
and environs. My birdlist target 100 for the day and many many
life listers. Especially brilliant were the Golden-collared
Manakin you showed us plus the White-headed Wren, White tailed
Trogon, Scarlet-rump Cacique, Yellow-tail Oriole, Flame-romped
Tanager and the Crested Oropendola. We will wear your hat
proudly as we continue our trip on to Darien. And we plan to
come back here and continue on explorations of the Caribbean
Panama. And we wont forget the leaf-footed bugs! If my
pictures come out I will email them to you. Tom

- We have experience Panamanian Paradise at Sierra Llorona.
Thank you Gonzalo, Ida and Michael and Maria for a wonderful
experience. We thoroughly enjoyed el bosque, the hummingbirds,
the special spider. The beautiful butterflies. The owls. The
Blue Cotinga. The toucans and the "puffito". The food was
excellent. Maria was a very efficient and gracious cook.
Michael provided outstanding guidance to the many birds at
Sierra Llorona and Achiote. We learn a lot from him about the
vocalizations of the many birds of SL. We think Gonzalo is the
perfect host! It was a very special visit for us and we will
always remember you with fondness. Douglas

- Dear Gonzalo + Ida, we had several interesting and
enjoyable days at Sierra Llorona. Birds, insects, reptiles +
amphibians kept us busy with our cameras. A juvenile Bothrops
asper even posed (grudgingly) for us one night. Every meal was
excellent and all around hospitality was excellent as well. It
was a pleasure to stay with people who share our concern for
the environment and our sense of wonder at the beauty of
nature. Birding highlights include Crested Owl (actually seen
and not just heard for a change) and Blue Cotinga, which
features quite reliably along the road side. In my opinion,
Sierra Llorona is the only game in town for birders whishing
to live well while exploring the central Atlantic side of
Central Panama. We hope to return before too long. James

this made it so much easier. Rid 8.11.04

save valuable habitat in Panama. Please come and visit us in
Victoria someday! Carol

- We are so glad we managed to find you! Our time spent
here has been very relaxing and the food wonderful! Hopefully
we have shocked-up on enough excellent food to fuel us during
the rest of our journey through Panama. Enjoyed the walks
around the reserve and benefited greatly from your kind and
considerate guiding. Many firsts during our stay including the
Howler Monkey and baby Armadillo. Have found all aspects
interesting from insects, mammals, birds, flora to the
architecture of Colon. Good luck with your project to restore
some of those buildings.. Have a good trip to England and if
you have time before you leave look at this website english-nature.org.uk It is from the

- After renting a Suzuki, having a tourist police escort,
finding our way and transversing a rocky road and an incline,
this proved to be a "find". Relaxing away from the world in
another world--- a realescape and a positive one. But best of
all was the hospitality, the friendliness and the good
conversations. I REALLY ENJOYED IT!!!!!! CHEERS Jenik Radon,
